ATS Security Recommendations for Microsoft UsersBusiness email compromise (BEC) attacks have increased by 81% in 2022 and 175% over the past two years.1 
ATS works with our clients to implement security solutions that align with the risk tolerance of their business. As the cyber threat landscape changes, so must the solutions implemented within your business to keep that same risk tolerance in balance. Not taking additional actions will tip the scales greatly to a higher risk.
We are contacting you because we need you to act. As an active Microsoft O365/M365 user, we want to align the security of your Microsoft account to either the current industry baseline security protocols, or the recommended better practices. Here are the options: Enhance your current Microsoft licenses to meet current baseline security standards:Migrate Microsoft Licenses to Business Premium: Migrating to a Microsoft Business Premium license will add multiple built-in layers of security. Migrating to the Microsoft Business Premium license will keep all your previous abilities and will add:
Making this migration will modestly increase your monthly subscription rate. 3 Add to the baseline standards to industry better practices by adding additional recommended protocols:While migrating to a Business Premium license will add extra security, adding additional layers outside the Microsoft ecosystem will strengthen your overall protection. If you have not added one of these below solutions yet, we suggest you consider them as part of your overall strategy. Add Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) – adding this extra step with cloud applications like Microsoft is critical because you need to add additional protection with an “any device” accessibility model. Add Security Awareness Training (SAT) – according to a recent study, 26-45% of staff are susceptible to a phishing threat. The Implementation of SAT program immediately reduced that percentage by 75%; with subsequent phishing testing over four weeks resulting in a close to zero phishing response rate.4 Having a proactive training program with regular, relevant content that is easy to manage and will track individual engagement and set up “false” phishing attacks to help identify areas of focus will be an invaluable step to improve the security of your business. What if I opt not to migrate my Microsoft licenses or add these additional recommended security solutions?It is ATS’s recommendation that you prioritize data security and go beyond baseline measures and implement better practice standards. If you have compliancy requirements or have (or are evaluating) cyber insurance, then you might already be familiar with these better practice requirements. It is our responsibility to inform you of the better practices for your business security. However, it is your final decision on what measures to implement. Your services will continue to operate, but your overall risk increases, and our ability to support your environment will diminish. Should you opt out of our recommendations, any support related to an email compromise will be Out of Scope of our Managed Services Agreement. The necessary support to recover from an attack can run thousands of dollars in support, not including the cost to lost business due to the breach.
